School of Foreign Languages (formerly known as the Department of Foreign Languages) of Chongqing University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as CQUT) was founded in March 2002. With “study, practice, act, create” as its guiding spirit, the School places a premium on spreading knowledge and talents cultivation. Based on resources of prominent disciplines of CQUT, the School is committed to developing characteristic majors and introducing a liberal arts education model that integrates Chinese and English with other disciplines, providing students with a platform for self-driven learning. The School also strives to cultivate high-quality, internationalized and application-oriented talents majoring in English and Teaching Chinese as a Second Language that have an excellent command of both English and Chinese, humanistic knowledge, practical abilities, and cross-cultural communication skills.

Over the past years, students of all majors of our School have scored outstanding achievements in standardized English tests, various English contests and postgraduate admissions, including National English Public Speaking Contest, All China Interpreting Contest, Official Document Writing Contest at both municipal and national levels, Test for English Majors-Band 4 (TEM-4), Test for English Majors-Band 8 (TEM-8), College English Test-Band 4 (CET-4), College English Test-Band 6 (CET-6), and National Postgraduate Entrance Examination, etc.. In addition, the School of Foreign Languages has registered fruitful results in international exchanges and cooperation.It currently offers some “1+3” and “2+2” international programs in partnership with foreign universities from the United Kingdom, Poland, Vietnam, Belarus, Thailand, and other countries. So far more than 60 international students majoring in English and Chinese have graduated, which has in turn greatly promoted English and Chinese teaching and the dissemination of Chinese culture.

Department of College English Teaching and Department of Postgraduate English Teaching for Non-English Majors affiliated to the School are responsible for English teaching tasks targeted at non-English major undergraduates and postgraduates across the University. Seizing the opportunity of comprehensive English teaching reforms and making full use of modern network technology, the two departments have proactively introduced a three-dimensional, interactive, and online and offline hybrid teaching model, with the focus on cultivating students’ self-driven learning ability and overall competence in using English. The teaching quality has been well recognized and acclaimed across the university, and a strong proof of that is the remarkable performance achieved in various English contests at all levels by students from CQUT.

The School is well equipped with 24 language laboratories, including a simultaneous interpretation lab, a translation booth, a business scenario simulation room, a traditional Chinese culture experience room and several audio labs, which underpin the teaching, scientific research and major development.
